Northamptonshire-based Turtle Medical has won the Best Community Impact award at the BizX Awards in April 2026 - collected by Mike Dowson

Northamptonshire-based Turtle Medical has won the Best Community Impact award at the BizX Awards, held at ICC Wales in Newport last week. The company has been recognised for its continued contribution to public safety, community resilience and inclusive access to lifesaving equipment.

The innovative manufacturer of defibrillator and bleed control cabinets and supplier of medical equipment has produced The Daniel Baird Foundation #controlthebleed kits on behalf of the charity for five years. Turtle also created the UK’s first dedicated bleed control cabinets to house kits in.

BizX Best Community Impact Award goes to Turtle Medical for bleed control kits.

In January 2026, Turtle’s Managing Director Mike Dowson became one of the founding trustees of new non-profit, The National Bleed Kit Network. Its Bleed Map is akin to British Heart Foundations’ ‘The Circuit’ defibrillator network and aims to be utilised by all NHS Ambulance Services with all brands of publicly accessible bleed kit registered.

The award celebrates Turtle’s demonstration of meaningful social value alongside commercial success. Judges recognised Turtle’s clear evidence of positive community impact, investment in people and places, and leadership that strengthens the communities they serve.

Mike Dowson, Managing Director of Turtle Medical, said: “There were over 1,000 business owners in the room, so it’s quite an accolade to be shortlisted, never mind winning. I am very honoured, as are the whole team.

“Thanks must go to them and our customers who inspire people wherever they go and place lifesaving medical equipment in communities. Of course, The Daniel Baird Foundation is the original inspiration for us all; we’re incredibly proud to be their partner and of Daniel’s legacy.

“Campaigners across the UK have supported the wider shift in how severe bleeding response is understood in public spaces, workplaces and community settings. By helping our customers place bleed control kits and other emergency medical equipment where they are needed most, we’re improving preparedness every week.”

The BizX Awards ceremony forms part of BizX 2026, a major business event that brought together more than 1,200 business owners, entrepreneurs and leaders.
